Do you want the Good News or the Bad News?

I don’t know about you all, but frankly, I am a bit frustrated. While I am always trying to adapt to the ever-evolving world of social media, there is a part of me that regrets, to a certain extent, that I can have so much access to both good news and bad news, with a touch of a button or keyboard stroke, pretty quickly. While I like to keep up with family and friends, birthdays, parties, funny thoughts and comments and baby photos on Facebook, I am seeing more and more of the negative type of news and less and less of the positive ones. In my news feed on Facebook just today, here are some of the headlines/topics that are trending:
Oklahoma State shooting
Fire destroys house on Cleveland’s east side
Hurricane Patricia
A shooting in Cleveland of a 15 year old boy
A truck driver who dies after a crash
A woman who was killed inside of her Cleveland home
Minneapolis police need help finding two missing girls
Whoopi Goldberg’s bus bursts into flames during a show
Abusive husband who tries to beat up his wife again
A 17 year old arrested for possession of drugs and guns
A Detroit medic is fired after a baby died because she refused to give her CPR
Tons of postings on sex, drugs and profanity
Now, this blog is not about what you can and cannot post on Facebook. I am not a Facebook spokesperson. Everyone has a right to post what they want, when they want and how they want. In return, I also have the right to choose if I want to read it, hide it, unfollow or block you. In addition, the news industry has a right to report the news. After all, we need to know what’s going on the world, right?
However, as I am reading all of this negativity, what happened to the good news? It seems like, in addition to the above topics, everyone is sad, lost, have a lack of peace, depressed or angry. There are a few happy pictures, comments, photos and moments here and there, but what stood out for me was how many people, particularly women, are still struggling just living day to day. Here is what I see from women who are having the following issues:
Depression
Weight issues
Health issues
Lonely and single
Frustration
Trust issues
Not knowing your worth
Not enough of God
Drug addiction
Mourning the loss of a loved one
Friendship issues
Relationship issues
Marriage issues
This was an eye opener when seeing both lists together! What I see is too much JUNK and not enough JESUS! It is time to embrace more of God like never before! In order for the above list to have become an issue in the first place, is an indication that we cannot overcome these concerns totally on our own. Isaiah 49:10 (NASB) states: “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." The list above shows how swift and crafty satan is and he will do everything possible to keep division or separation between us and God. Satan is smart when it comes to causing distractions and he is a master of making sin look and feel good, AND the above list is just that, all distractions. Ladies, if you are a woman who has a relationship with Jesus already, it is time to reach out to other women who need our help. It’s time to quit competing with each other, talking about each other and start lifting each other up! They need to hear the GOOD NEWS about Jesus Christ! When someone is posting something that is indicating some sign of a negative issue, let’s try and show the love of Christ. These women are in need of a Savior and it is our job to show them the way, or at least plant the seed. The noise in the world is speaking louder than what the word of God says and it is time to turn this around! You never know what people are going through.
Before this can happen, however, let’s make sure that we have our i’s dotted and our t’s crossed first. Just because we go to church does not mean we have arrived. If we have not allowed God to touch the secret places of our lives (what no one knows about), we are just as broken and in no position to lead someone else. You can’t talk to someone about their issue when you have the same issue! Don’t look at MY backyard when YOUR lawn isn't mowed either! My pastor says that “hurt people, hurt people.” Ladies, let’s get our stuff together and do this! It is time to speak up, not keep quiet. Too many people are dying without knowing anything about Christ. We can’t sit back and wait for someone else to do it. We have to start planting the seed now! Where is the Good News? It is inside of all believers, but it wasn’t meant to be kept to ourselves. Suck it up, speak up a
